IFAT 2024 – The world’s leading trade fair for environmental technologies
IFAT 2024 in Munich has once again demonstrated the power of innovative environmental technology. Between recycling plants, water management systems and digital control solutions, technologies were made visible that can shape a more sustainable future.
Circular economy and digital solutions
The central theme of the trade fair was the transformation to a circular economy. Manufacturers showcased systems that intelligently sort materials, automate processing and recycle raw materials. These were complemented by digital control systems – a step towards “Smart Waste”. Insights into the photographic implementation of technical topics are provided in the article The impact of professional trade fair photography.
Start-ups and new impulses
The area for young companies was particularly exciting. It brought fresh ideas to the industry – from sensor solutions to energy-efficient pump systems. Such areas are also photographically interesting: they combine experimentation and seriousness in a single scene.
Water, energy and resources
Smart water management was a second focus. New control systems enable more precise monitoring of consumption and losses. In waste management, systems for heat recovery and CO₂ reduction were shown. Thematically related approaches can also be found at Sustainability at BAU 2025.
People and networks
In addition to machines, it was the conversations that shaped the atmosphere. IFAT is a trade fair of encounters – and it is precisely these moments that make up the photographic charm. If you would like to see examples, you can find them in the AUTEC project.
Conclusion
IFAT 2024 has proven that environmental technology can be not only functional but also aesthetically exciting. A visually powerful connection is created between machines and people – and this is exactly where the story that good trade fair photography tells begins.
