What is exhibition photography

Exhibitions deserve lasting images.

Temporary exhibitions exist for weeks or months — then they disappear. Exhibits return to storage, installations are dismantled, spaces are repurposed. What remains are the photographs.

Professional exhibition photography documents spatial concept, lighting, objects, and atmosphere — as the foundation for press work, catalogues, digital communication, and the institutional archive.

Why Adrian Alexander

Exhibition Photography Munich – Experience from State Exhibitions.

I photograph exhibitions for renowned design studios and museums in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, and Austria — including several Bavarian State Exhibitions and projects for the Landesmuseum Württemberg.

  • Experience with temporary and permanent exhibitions
  • Bavarian State Exhibitions & museums
  • Working across regions — Bavaria, BW, Austria
  • Close collaboration with exhibition design studios
  • Challenging lighting situations and difficult objects
  • Discreet working during ongoing operations

“Exhibitions are fleeting. Photography is the only medium that permanently captures the overall impression of an exhibition — space, light, object, and atmosphere.”

FAQ

Common questions.

How much does exhibition photography cost?
Packages start at €700 net for compact exhibitions and go up to €1,800 for large museums and state exhibitions. All prices are net plus VAT; usage rights for press, catalogue, and digital communication are included.
What is the best time for photography?
The best results come before the opening — when the exhibition is fully installed but visitors haven’t arrived yet. This allows for calm room views and undisturbed object shots. On request, I also photograph the opening event or ongoing operations with visitors.
Do you also work outside of Munich?
Yes, I work across regions — including Regensburg, Freising, Bad Schussenried, and Lake Constance. For projects outside Munich, a travel surcharge applies. Feel free to get in touch.
What usage rights are included?
You receive full usage rights for press, catalogue, digital communication, and internal use — print and digital, with no time limit. No hidden licensing costs.
Can you handle challenging lighting situations?
Yes — exhibition lighting is often a challenge: spotlights, mixed light sources, dark rooms, or very bright display cases. I specialise in exactly these situations and work with professional equipment that handles even demanding lighting conditions.
Do you work directly with exhibition designers?
Yes, gladly. I coordinate appointments and briefings directly with the design studio or institution — saving time and ensuring the photographs reflect the design concept as intended.
